PORTLAND, MAINE – Jackson Leef scored a pair of goals but the Brampton Beast dropped Tuesday’s night game to the Maine Mariners in overtime.
The Brampton Beast took on the Maine Mariners for the third game in a row on Tuesday night. The Beast have won the previous two and were looking for the sweep in the North Division showdown.
The Beast got on the board first with a power play goal off the stick of Jackson Leef. The forward was able to tip home the point shot from TJ Melancon and give the Beast a 1-0 lead at 16:24.
The Mariners got one back on a power play of their own. Terrence Wallin got a stick on the puck and sent it past Alex Dubeau for the 1-1 tie at 17:25.
The first period would come to a close with the clubs locked in a 1-1 tie. Maine would lead in shots 11-6 after the first period of play.
The second period saw Brampton get back on the scoreboard with the second goal of the game from Leef. The forward went upstairs for a gorgeous goal over Connor LaCouvee to put the Beast ahead 2-1 at 3:47.
That would do it for scoring in the middle frame, as both netminders shut the door the rest of the way. Brampton took a 2-1 lead into the second intermission but would trail 23-15 in shots.
The third period saw the Mariners tie the contest with a sharp angle goal from Michael McNicholas at 8:53. The rest of the third didn’t yield a winner, so overtime was called into effect.
With less than a minute in the overtime frame, Alex KIle broke in and scored the winner to propel the Mariners to victory.
Dubeau received the loss and finished with 31 total saves. LaCouvee got the win and ended his night with 27 saves.
