NORFOLK, VIRGINIA – Francois Beauchemin had five total points and Brenden Miller sniped the overtime winner as the Brampton Beast defeated the Norfolk Admirals 5-4 on Saturday night.
The Brampton Beast met the Norfolk Admirals for the final time in the 2019-20 regular season. The Beast were looking to complete the sweep after securing the victory the previous two times out.
The Admirals came out firing and were rewarded with the first goal of the game off the stick of Alex Rodriguez. The forward beat Andrew D’Agostini on a funky wraparound at 1:33.
The Beast stormed right back and Connor Sanvido feathered a perfect pass to Anthony Nigro who sent the puck past Jake Theut to tie the game 1-1 at 1:42.
The Beast continued to press and Nigro made an excellent play in the offensive zone as he sent the puck across the seam to Francois Beauchemin. The Quebec native took a knee and buried the puck into the back of the net for a 2-1 Beast lead at 7:04.
The second period saw the Beast get on the board first with a goal from Erik Bradford. The forward walked in and wired a shot upstairs for a 3-1 Beast lead less than a minute in.
Norfolk fired back and pulled within one with a goal from Alex Tonge at 2:51. Francois Beauchemin then got ahold of the puck and was able to fire his second of the game and fourth point of the night home to restore the Beast two-goal lead at 8:56.
The Admirals persisted and got another goal late on the power play from Tonge. He beat D’Agostini short side at 19:04. The Beast would be up 4-3 after 40 minutes of play and would trail in shots 15-13.
The third period saw the Admirals tie the game short handed on the hat trick goal by Tonge. His tally made it 4-4 at the 4:03 mark of the final frame.
The game went to overtime and both clubs needed a hero. Beauchemin got the puck and found Vallorani who sent it up the gut to Brenden Miller. The defenseman aimed and fired the shot perfectly for the overtime winner as Brampton completed the sweep of the Admirals.
D’Agostini ended up with the win and made 18 saves in the victory. Theut ended with the loss and made 23 saves of his own.
