BRAMPTON, ONTARIO – The Brampton Beast announce today that they have signed veteran defenseman Tommy Hughes for the upcoming ECHL season.
Hughes, 28, spent the last season primarily with the South Carolina Stingrays where he scored two goals and eight total points in 33 games. He also logged one game of action in the American Hockey League with the Hershey Bears.
The native of London, Ontario, Hughes has a bevy of AHL experience to fall back on and has racked up 30 points over the course of 237 games split between the Hartford Wolfpack and the aforementioned Bears.
Hughes also played overseas during the 2018-19 season and suited up in 55 games for the Nottingham Panthers of the EIHL.
The steady defenseman started his playing career in the Ontario Hockey League with the London Knights. He wore an “A” in his final season and was an OHL Champion in both 2011-2012 and 2012-2013.
The experienced blueliner brings leadership, great defensive presence, and physicality to the Beast defense corps.
