SWISS CHALET PREVIEW: Brampton Beast vs Kalamazoo Wings

01/08/2017 10:02 AM -

NOTE: Live commentary will not begin until 15 minutes before puck drop.

TODAY'S GAME: The Brampton Beast, the ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, are hoping snap their two-game losing skid by taking down the Kalamazoo Wings for the first time this season.

MILESTONE ALERT: Beast Captain Brandon Marino enters this afternoon's game with 50 assists, a total that is one shy of Jason Pitton's franchise record of 51 helpers. Marino, who has 31 points in 33 games, has a strong opportunity to surpass Pitton for the all-time team points lead later this season. He needs 29 to eke past Pitton's high water mark of 100.

ENDING THE DROUGHT: The Beast are seeking their first win over the Kalamazoo Wings since January 10, 2016. The K-Wings 5-2 win over the Beast on Friday night marked their sixth straight triumph over Canada's ECHL team. The Beast will need to produce a strong defensive effort as the K-Wings have scored five goals in each of the three games between these two clubs this season.

AUGER WATCH: Chris Auger just needs one more goal to tie Andrew Fournier for third place on the Brampton Beast all-time goal list. Fournier has 29 tallies, while Auger enters today's game with 28.

POTENT PENALTY KILL: The Brampton Beast penalty kill has been clicking in the past two games against the Wings as they stfiled eight of nine power-play opportunites. Kalamazoo was only able to convert on one of the seven power play opportunities it was given on Friday night.

SO FAR AHEAD: Perhaps the best statistic to provide proper context on how impressive the Beast's meteoric rise has been this season is that they have an opportunity to capture their 20th victory of the season nearly three months before they managed the feat in 2016 (April 1st). Brampton is on pace to finish with 44 wins this year.

AVOIDING THE BLANK: It took till game 33 for the Beast skaters to be kept off the scoreboard while the 2015-2016 Beast were shut out twice in their first 20 games
