It’s your old pal Boomer! With Christmas only a few days away, I thought I would fill you in on who’s been naughty and nice for the Brampton Beast this year.
I am really happy to report that through 26 games of the 2016-2017 ECHL season, the Beast are once again on the nice side of the parchment when it comes to taking penalties!
When I messaged you about last year’s Beast, I told you that they were very disciplined on the ice as their 13.3 penalty minutes per game was the eighth lowest average. Well, the presents you gave them last year seems to have motivated them as they cut that average down to 11.92!
While the Beast have overall been really good this year, Santa, I must admit that several Beast skaters have been quite naughty to their opponents in 2016.
🚨 DAVID PACAN! The forward played his best game yet as a member of the Beast yesterday!
Garrett Clarke has also not been very nice to his opponents this year as he leads the Beast with 40 sin bin minutes and three fighting majors.
I’ll admit that I had some help when I put this list together for you. Broadcaster Chris Ballard made some rounds and let the Beast players share their take on who they thought was worthy of being etched onto the naughty list.
Mathieu Gagnon was mentioned as a candidate many, many times.
Veteran defenseman Jordan Henry told me that he would have to go with Gagnon because “any time you are getting into fights and stuff like that I am sure Santa does not appreciate that.”
Gagnon has beat down each of his three sparring partners this season and he has racked up 15 penalty minutes.
Second-year Beast skater Luke Pither also selected Gagnon simply because “he is a bad boy.”
Don’t feel bad for putting Gagnon on your naughty list because he told me that he is taking the nominations from his teammates as a compliment!
Beast Captain Brandon Marino decided to nominate blueliners Tim Billingsley and Mike Folkes for the not-so-nice list. He told me that “they tend to be on their own page and we don’t know what they do when it is just the two of them so we have to keep an eye on them.”
So there you go! Another naughty and nice list is in the books!
We really should catch up when you are not so busy Jolly Old Nick! Visit Brampton when your schedule is free. The milk and cookies will be on me!
