BRAMPTON, ONTARIO –The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens, acquire shutdown defenseman Willie Corrin via a loan from the AHL’s Toronto Marlies.
Corrin, who hails from International Falls, Minnesota, joins the Beast with four games of AHL experience with the Marlies, all of which came at the tail end of the 2015-16 season. He contributed a solid two assists in those outings, and proved to be a strong physical presence in the defensive zone.
Prior to making the leap to the professional ranks, the rearguard played four seasons of collegiate hockey with University of Minnesota-Duluth of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). During his NCAA career, he was counted upon by his coaches to play big minutes and stifle the top scoring threats from opposition teams. He proved to be very effective at doing so as he accumulated a plus-minus rating of 14 during his tenure with Minnesota-Duluth. The 2015-16 season was his best with the team as he netted a career-high nine assists and 10 points in 39 games.
Corrin will be in the lineup for the Beast against the Jackals.
