BRAMPTON, ONTARIO – The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the NHL’s Montreal Canadiens, announce today multiple transactions ahead of this weekend’s pair of games against the Kalamazoo Wings on Friday and the Fort Wayne Komets on Sunday afternoon.
Beast defenseman Justin Baker has been nothing short of impressive since joining the club and will get a shot to show his talent at the American Hockey League level, having signed a Professional Tryout Contract (PTO) with the AHL’s Utica Comets.
The 25-year-old Toronto, Ontario native has appeared in four games for the Beast thus far this season and recorded one goal, one assist and eight penalty minutes.
To replace Baker, the Beast have signed defenseman Matt Chiarantano to a Standard Player Contract.
Chiarantano, 24, is a native of Caledon, Ontario and appeared in three contests with the Beast at the end of the 2015-16 season.
Prior to joining the Beast, Chiarantano spent the last four seasons in the NCAA with Niagara University in New York state, where he patrolled the blue line for 75 games between the 2012-13 and 2015-16 seasons.
The 5’9” rearguard is considered to be a solid player at both ends of the ice and recorded four goals and 15 assists with 32 penalty minutes throughout his NCAA career.
