BRAMPTON, ONTARIO – The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, announce several transactions ahead of the club’s Home Opener on Friday, October 21 against the Toledo Walleye.
The Beast have acquired forward Mathieu Gagnon from the Tulsa Oilers.
The rugged 6’2” forward from Montreal, Quebec is one tough customer. Last season in Tulsa, he appeared in 56 contests and earned three goals, three assists and 163 penalty minutes, which includes 15 fighting majors.
Gagnon impressed during his time at American Hockey League training camp with the St. John’s IceCaps. To date, Gagnon has appeared in 27 American Hockey League games with the Springfield Falcons and Bridgeport Sound Tigers and netted one goal while recording 79 penalty minutes.
Additionally, with goaltender Bryan Pitton returning to the Beast following a stint in the American Hockey League with the St. John’s IceCaps, the club has released goaltender Drew Fielding from his player contract.
Fielding, 26, served as the backup to Andrew D’Agostini for the Beast’s Opening Night overtime victory against the Wheeling Nailers at WesBanco Arena last Friday night.
He appeared in six games with the Beast during the 2015-16 season and posted a 3.18 goals against average and a .880 save percentage.
