KALAMAZOO, MICHIGAN – The Brampton Beast fought hard through three periods of play to earn their first ever preseason victory 3-2 over the Kalamazoo Wings at Wings Event Center on Sunday afternoon.
Forwards Nick McParland and Scott Jacklin each picked up a goal and an assist and David Pacan recorded his first tally in a Beast jersey help the club even its preseason record at 1-1-0-0.
Goaltender Bryan Pitton was nearly unbeatable through three periods of play and made 28 saves to earn the win.
After a scoreless opening period, Beast newcomer David Pacan opened the scoring on the power play at 4:14 of the second frame, with Brandon Marino and Reggie Traccitto earning the assists.
Kalamazoo’s Tanner Sorenson responded at 10:16, tying the game 1-1 heading into the third period.
The Beast were resilient to start the third period and were rewarded for their efforts. Nick McParland broke the tie just 2:25 into the final frame to give the Beast a 2-1 edge.
Scott Jacklin pushed the Beast lead to 3-1 thanks to assists from McParland and Tim Billingsley at 16:32 to put the Beast in the driver’s seat.
Kalamazoo’s Josh Pitt added a goal in the dying minute of the game but the Beast held on to earn the victory.
Notes: The Beast outshot the K-Wings 31-30. Brampton finished the game 1-for-5 with the man advantage and was a perfect 2-for-2 while shorthanded. Molson Three Stars: 3) Pitt (KAL) 2) McParland (BRA) 1) Jacklin.
The Beast will finish their three-game preseason schedule tomorrow, Monday, October 10 as they head to the Allen County War Memorial Coliseum to face the Fort Wayne Komets. At 7:30PM.
Brampton kicks off its regular season schedule next Saturday, October 15 as the club heads to WesBanco Arena to face the Wheeling Nailers. Game time is scheduled for 7:05PM.
