PREVIEW: Brampton Beast vs Elmira Jackals

10/04/2016 1:42 PM -

TODAY'S GAME: The Beast kick off their preseason schedule in Kingston, Ontario as they face the Elmira Jackals at 6:00PM. Today's game not only marks the first ever preseason game for the Beast, but it will be the first preseason game in the entire ECHL ahead of the 2016-17 season.

FAMILIAR FACES: While the official 2016-17 Training Camp roster has been bolstered by some talented new recruits, it also features 14 players who saw action for the Beast last season, including goaltenders Bryan Pitton and Andrew D'Agostini, defensemen Jordan Henry and Mike Vernace and forwards Luke Pither and Brandon Marino, among others.

Note: #3 Garrett Clarke has been replaced by #19 Andrew Darrigo.

KINGSTON TIES: A preseason game in Kingston, Ontario is a significant event for several members of the Brampton Beast. Beast Head Coach Colin Chaulk played his junior hockey for the Kingston Frontenacs in the Ontario Hockey League from 1994 to 1998. Beast owner Gregg Rosen hails from Kingston and still works in the city to this day. Assistant Coach Peter Goulet also serves as the General Manager of the Kingston Voyageurs of the OJHL. Former Voyageur Ian Harris will be making his Beast debut in his former home arena, the INVISTA Centre.

FIRST OF THREE: The Beast will be playing three preseason games ahead of the start of the 2016-17 ECHL season. Following tonight's game, the club will head to Kalamazoo to face the K-Wings at 3:00PM on Sunday, October 9. One day later, the Beast will visit the Komets in Fort Wayne at 7:30PM on Monday, October 10.

FORMER BEAST: There is a distinct Beast flavour on the current Jackals Training Camp Roster. Three former Beast are on the roster ahead of the first preseason game, including forward Colin Murray and defenseman Guy Leboeuf from the 2015-16 squad as well as forward Tyson Fawcett from the 2014-15 team.

SEE YOU SOON: This may be the first game between these two teams this season but it won't be the last. The Beast and the Jackals will square off five times during the regular season with the first game taking place on November 11, 2016 at First Arena in Elmira.

FIRST EVER PRESEASON GAME… KIND OF: Prior to today's game, the only preseason game ever played by the Beast was a split-squad exhibition contest against the national team of India held at the Powerade Centre in Brampton on October 9, 2015.
