BRAMPTON, ONTARIO – The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the St. John’s IceCaps and Montreal Canadiens, announce today that the club has signed a pair of Carleton University grads ahead of the team’s two-game set against the Elmira Jackals starting on Friday, March 25.
The Beast have signed former Peterborough Petes standout Joey West to a player contract. West, 25, hails from Orleans, Ontario and played the last four seasons with Carleton University in Ottawa, where he suited up for 109 games and tallied 39 goals and 51 helpers for 90 points to go along with 47 penalty minutes.
Prior to his university career, West spent parts of five seasons with the OHL’s Peterborough Petes, where he played a total of 326 goals and recorded 44 goals and 98 assists for 142 points.
The Beast have also signed West’s Carleton University teammate Mitch Zion to a player contract. The 24-year-old Ottawa, Ontario native played parts of two seasons with Clarkson University in the NCAA from 2011 to 2013 and appeared in 14 games, recording one assist.
He was a point-per-game player with the Cornwall Colts in the Central Canada Hockey League in 2012-13, picking up 17 goals and 43 assists in just 43 games played. He then joined Carleton University where he spent the last three seasons, appearing in 72 games, scoring 20 goals and adding 32 assists.
In a separate transaction, the Beast have released forward Tim DiPretoro from his contract. The Philadelphia, Pennsylvania native appeared in four games with the Beast and recorded one assist, his first professional point, on March 17 against the Kalamazoo Wings.
The Beast are on the road for a pair of games against the Elmira Jackals on Friday and Saturday night. The Beast return home to the Powerade Centre on Sunday, March 27 as they host the Toledo Walleye for the final time this season. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25.
