BRAMPTON, ON – The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the St. John’s IceCaps and Montreal Canadiens, announce today that the club has acquired three players, Ben Power, Steven Kaunisto and Scott Jacklin ahead of this weekend’s two-game series against the Kalamazoo Wings.


The Beast have signed Montreal native and Lake Superior State NCAA grad Ben Power to a Standard Player Contract.


Power has been playing well for the Knoxville Ice Bears in the Southern Professional Hockey League this season, notching three goals and six assists in 15 games played.


He is no stranger to the ECHL, having split last season with the Ice Bears and the ECHL’s Greenville Road Warriors. In 24 games with the Road Warriors last season, he suited up for 24 games and recorded two goals and five assists with six penalty minutes.


He completed four full seasons in the NCAA with Lake Superior State from 2009-10 to 2012-13, appearing in 145 games aand collecting 14 goals, 34 assists to go along with 63 penalty minutes.


The Beast have also claimed former Lake Superior State captain Steven Kaunisto off waivers from the Kalamazoo Wings.


The 6’0”, 192-pound Kaunisto appeared in 12 games with the K-Wings this season and recorded four assists.


The 29-year-old has been playing in the ECHL since the 2009-10 season and has appeared in 79 career games between the Reading Royals, Elmira Jackals, Rapid City Rush, Florida Everblades and Kalamazoo Wings.


Kaunisto was the captain at Lake Superior State in his final year of college in 2009-10 and dressed for a total of 154 NCAA games, amassing 14 goals and 45 assists.


The Beast have also acquired Scott Jacklin via a trade with the Elmira Jackals for future considerations.


The Kimberley, British Columbia native is in the midst of his first season in the professional ranks and has already collected five goals and five assists in 16 games with the Jackals.


From 2011-12 to to 2014-15, he was a mainstay with the NCAA’s Robert Morris University where he was an impact player, recording 48 goals and 59 assists over 143 games played.


The Beast return to action this weekend as they head to Kalamazoo to take on the K-Wings on Friday and Saturday night. The team returns to the Powerade Centre on Sunday afternoon as they host the Norfolk Admirals for the first time ever at 2:00 PM. Single game tickets are now available, starting at $16.25.
