Two forwards and three defensemen heading off to three different AHL camps
BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast are proud to announce that five players have earned the opportunity to attend American Hockey League training camps ahead of the upcoming 2015-16 season.
Captain Cal Wild and second-year Beast forward Jeff Brown will be heading to Newfoundland to take part in the training camp of the Beast’s AHL affiliate, the St. John’s IceCaps.
The Beast’s 2014-15 Rookie of the Year and Fan Favourite award winner Mathew Maione is packing his bags for the Keystone State and will be attending camp with the Wilkes-Barre Scranton Penguins, while fellow defensemen and Ontario natives Justin DaCosta and Zach McCullough will make the short drive down the Gardiner Expressway to attend camp with the Toronto Marlies.
DaCosta is the only player of the five headed to AHL camps that has suited up for an American Hockey League contest, playing in a single game with the Lake Erie Monsters during the 2010-11 season, and Beast President and General Manager Cary Kaplan is proud to see members of the Beast get the opportunity to showcase their skills at the AHL level.
"It's a big step for the Beast franchise to have so many of our players attend AHL training camps,” Kaplan said. “This is a great indication of the strong team that Colin and his staff have built for the season ahead"
Not only will these players gain valuable experience at these training camps, Beast head coach Colin Chaulk believes seeing these players in AHL camps will help cement relationships with more teams, creating more opportunities for Beast players moving forward.
“This is a great opportunity for our players to show what they can do at the AHL level,” Chaulk said. “It also confirms a solid partnership between St. John's and Brampton as well as other AHL teams.”
The Beast’s second season in the ECHL kicks off on the road for the 2015-16 campaign. The Beast will head to New Hampshire to face the Manchester Monarchs on Friday, October 16 before ending their season-opening road trip in central New York to face the Elmira Jackals on Saturday, October 17.
Single game tickets for the Beast’s home opener on Friday, October 23rd against the Adirondack Thunder are now available, starting at $16.25. Trial Packs for the 2015-16 season are also available starting at $39.99 that include three game tickets.
