Beast Sign OHL Talents Lewis and Devlin

03/26/2015 1:13 PM -

Brampton, ON – The Brampton Beast are proud to announce the signing of former Brampton Battalion forward Jamie Lewis, and 20-year-old impact defenseman Brandon Devlin of the Mississauga Steelheads.

Lewis joins the Beast directly from the Ontario Hockey League, where he recorded 41 points including 19 goals in 57 games this season. Prior to being traded to the Spitfires, Lewis spent three seasons with the Battalion, including two years in Brampton and one in North Bay when the franchise moved for the 2013-2014 season. Lewis was a part of the Battalion’s resurgence up north, as the team won both the division and conference championship in their first season after relocating. Lewis has 113 points in 252 total games throughout his four-year OHL career.

Defenseman Brandon Devlin also joins the Beast directly from the OHL after posting an incredible 39 points in 66 games for the second season in a row. The offensive-minded blueliner scored twenty goals and added 100 penalty minutes this season with the Steelheads to follow up last year’s breakout campaign (14 G, 25 A, 85 PIM in 66 GP). The young defenseman demonstrated leadership and mental fortitude in addition to his one-ice abilities in maintaining his point production after being traded from the Peterborough Pete’s in his overage year.

In other Beast news, Tyson Fawcett has been released by the team following Sunday’s game.

“It was a tough decision,” said Beast Head Coach Brent Hughes of the transaction. “He came in here as a first year guy and he played hard every single night, and obviously a lot of people noticed it as he was chosen for the All Star game. That being said this was a situation where we felt it was the right decision for this organization moving forward. He’s a great kid and we want to thank him for his contributions here this season and certainly wish him all the best moving forward.”

Catch Lewis and Devlin in action tonight when the Beast take on former head coach Mark DeSantis and the Rapid City Rush for the first of a three-game set during Business Networking Night at the Powerade Centre.

The fun continues on Friday as the Beast finally unveil their Star Wars themed jerseys complete with character name bars which will be available in a live auction immediately following the game. On Sunday, the ice princesses Elsa and Anna themselves descend upon the Powerade Centre for a Frozen Musical and meet-and-greet to take place before the Beast game at 2:00 pm.
