BRAMPTON, ON – The Brampton Beast announced yesterday the signing of 5’11”, 190-pound left wing Tyler Stothers from the Wilfred Laurier Golden Hawks, and the signing of 6’1”, 185-pound emergency backup goaltender Dalton McGrath from the Steel City Warriors.
Stothers, a native of Oakville, Ontario, spent his last four years playing CIS hockey with the Golden Hawks where he scored 43 goals and 45 assists in 97 games. Named captain in his third season with the team, Stothers posted career bests this year in goals, points and games played. The promising forward’s 17 goals this season ranked him third overall in the OUAA West and 6th in CIS hockey across the nation in 2014-2015.
Stothers began his university career scoring 10 goals and 20 points in 26 games as a rookie, and was his team’s leading scorer in his sophomore season before missing the final month due to injury. Prior to heading to college, the speedy winger spent two seasons with the Vaughan Vipers of the OJHL, racking up 31 goals and 79 points in just 49 games during his final season. He was drafted in round 15, 288th overall by Owen Sound Attack in the 2007 OHL Priority Selection.
McGrath, a Brampton native, participated in the pre-season free agent camp with the Beast last fall and will make his ECHL debut backing up Ryan Demelo after spending 20 games with the Steel City Warriors of the FHL earlier this season. McGrath spent his past two years playing CIS hockey for Brock University in the OUAA circuit.
The Beast return home for a three game homestand beginning Thursday, March 19 for St. Patrick's Day at the Powerade Centre. Wear green and show off your shamrocks for a chance to win prizes for best costume! The fun continues on Friday with the Warrior Night of Champions, while Sunday is Team Picture Giveaway Day with all fans in attendance getting a Beast season photo that they can have signed during the free skate after the game.
