Brampton, ON – The Brampton Beast announced today the signing of 6’1”, 202-pound forward Jeff Brown from the University of Toronto Varsity Blues. The 24-year-old forward will be expected to make his professional debut with the Beast in Friday’s road contest against the Wichita Thunder, joining a Brampton squad fresh off a huge series victory over the Quad City Mallards.
Brown, a Toronto native, joins Dean Willmott as one of two players scouted directly out of CIS hockey and signed by the Beast this week (Willmott was acquired by the Ryerson Rams where he played for the past four seasons). Last year, Brown suited up for all 28 regular season and both playoff games for the Blues, was third overall in team scoring with 23 points, and second in goal scoring with 13 goals.
This season, Brown dressed for 27 games and again scored 13 goals, adding 18 assists for 31 points and 88 penalty minutes. Through 83 career games at U of T, Brown is over a point-per-game with 40 goals, 46 assists and 86 points in addition to 156 penalty minutes.
Prior to attending university, Brown spent two and a half seasons with the Oshawa Generals of the Ontario Hockey League before being traded to the Windsor Spitfires in his final year. During his 182-game OHL career, Brown scored 51 goals and 58 assists to go with 263 PIM.
Catch Brown in action on Friday, March 6 at 7:30 PM on what will be Star Wars Night at the Powerade Centre, with Beast players wearing unique Star Wars jerseys that will be auctioned after the game. The fun continues on Sunday, March 8 with fans having the opportunity to meet their favourite Brampton Thunder players on Women’s Hockey Day beginning at 2:00 pm.
