BRAMPTON, ON - The Brampton Beast will be hosting the first ever Toss Your Jersey Night when the Allen Americans roll into town Thursday, February 5 at the Powerade Centre.
With so much publicity in the GTA surrounding hockey jerseys being thrown onto the ice on a regular basis, the Beast have decided to turn the trend in a positive direction while supporting youth hockey along the way. After the Beast score their first goal of the game against the Americans, fans are strongly encouraged to toss hockey jerseys onto the ice. The collected sweaters will then be donated to support the Moss Park Hockey League.
The MPHL is a community league in downtown Toronto that gives youth aged four to 14 the opportunity to play organized hockey, regardless of their socioeconomic background. By keeping the league free of charge, the MPHL is able to provide a wide variety of children with the opportunity to enjoy Canada’s national pastime of hockey and the experience of being a part of a team.
“The Brampton Beast do not typically agree with or in any way condone the act of fans throwing jerseys on the ice, which we believe is disrespectful to the teams playing,” said Cary Kaplan, President and General Manager of the Beast. “However, we did feel that a ‘Jersey Toss’ night would be a fun and creative opportunity for us to give something to the great people at Moss Park, who amazingly provide free hockey to those who cannot afford it. We hope our fans have fun with this, and appreciate that this is being done for a great cause.”
The Beast were first introduced to the MPHL last season by former Beast player Scott Howes, who spent time in the Moss Park system growing up. The forward expressed his appreciation for this incredible organization by purchasing a section of tickets and donating them to the League last year to be given to kids who had never before attended a pro hockey game. The Beast are proud to carry on Howes’ tradition and support this initiative.
“Moss Park is very excited and appreciative of the Jersey Toss promotion with the Brampton Beast,” said Ed Hunter, President of the MPHL, who will be attending the game along with a group of young hockey players from the league. “It is a fun way for underprivileged kids to get hockey jerseys that they could otherwise not afford, so when they are on the ice they can feel on an equal level with others who love playing hockey.”
To sweeten the pot even further, the Jersey Toss is being hosted on Winning Weekday, where if the Beast win, fans win! In the event of a Beast victory over the Americans, fans will receive a ticket to the Beast’s next Tuesday home game on February 17 against the Tulsa Oilers. Fans can order tickets now using the promo code JERSEY15 to save 25% off walkup prices.
The Beast are on the road to end the month of January with two games in Tulsa, Oklahoma against the Oilers, before beginning February with another game in Quad City, Illinois. After facing the Mallards the Beast will return home to the Powerade for the Jersey Toss and Winning Weekday, Thursday, February 5. February 6 the Beast will unveil their new Canada-themed alternate jerseys, on Guaranteed Fun Night! If you don't have fun, get your money back!
