The Brampton Beast stomped the Missouri Mavericks Saturday night by a score of 3-0 in one of their most dominating performances of the season. Both Donati twins and alternate captain Jason Pitton scored goals for the Beast (10-17-2), while Grant Rollheiser made 26 saves in his first shutout of the year. At the other end of the ice, Mavericks (14-14-3) rookie goaltender Maxime Lagace stopped 22 of 25 shots in his sixth loss of the season.
Elgin Reid returned from injury to give a huge boost to the Beast blueline, as evidenced by the visiting team giving up a season-low four shots on goal in the first period. After a scoreless opening frame, Justin Donati got things started off for Brampton in the second period by crashing the net and poking the puck through Lagace’s pads to give the Beast a 1-0 lead. The goal was Justin’s third since joining the Beast and also extended his point streak to six games.
After Mavericks forward Geordie Wudrick was called for a tripping penalty, Jason Pitton would cash in with the extra man when he snapped a shot past Legace for his 11th goal of the season at 8:42 in the second.
The game would remain a back and forth defensive battle until the Beast were able to find some insurance in the third. With under nine minutes to play, Tyler Donati made an incredible play to drag the puck around the outstretched pad of Legace and extend the lead to 3-0. The goal was Tyler’s eighth this season and was assisted by twin brother Justin and rookie Tyson Fawcett.
The Beast have now picked up three of a possible four points in the first two games of their five-game road trip. The Beast will travel to Elmira next to play the Jackets on Friday, January 9th with puck drop slated for 7:05 EST.
After the weekend set, the Beast return home the weekend of January 16-18 for a three-game set against the Montreal Canadiens ECHL affiliate the Wheeling Nailers. Friday’s game will feature a Guns and Hoses themed game, where the Brampton Fire and Police Departments will square off in a charity game raising funds for Regen Brampton at 5:30, with puck drop for the Beast at 7:30.
