MOLINE, IL - "SNAP". That was the sound that the Beast's six game losing streak made tonight as
Brampton came out with a purpose and skated to a 5-3 victory against the Quad City Mallards. Despite Quad City fighting back and near tying the contest late, Brampton hung on and earned its 8th win of the season.
The first period was a solid effort from both clubs. Quad City came out and appeared to have the upper hand but by the periods end, it was the Beast who were buzzing. Jason Pitton recorded his team-leading 8th goal of the season and gave the Beast a 1-0 lead headed into the locker room for the first intermission.
Brampton came out on an absolute mission in the middle frame and was determined to put the game away, scoring three unanswered goals. Mike MacIsaac got the ball rolling, sniping a short-side goal on a 2-on-1 rush to give the Beast a 2-0 lead. And they were just getting started. Moments after, Rob Ricci tipped home an in-tight rebound and extended the lead to three. Tyson Fawcett would add one before the periods end.
Just when things appeared to be over, with Brampton leading 4-0 and only 20 minutes to play, the Mallards decided to make things interesting, scoring 3 unanswered goals of their own. With 4:30 remaining in the now one goal game, Brayden Rose was assessed a delay-of-game penalty for shooting the puck over the glass while in the defensive zone. The Beast PK got back to its normal self, however, and handled the 2 minute penalty without much threat.
The Mallards would pull their netminder, Evan Moser, in the final minute but it was too little, too late as the Beast held on and iced an empty-netter to put the icing on the cake. The Beast hunt for another win tomorrow night against the Quad City Mallards. Puck drop is slated for 5:05 pm ET.
