INDEPENDENCE, MO - What started out looking like a great evening for Brampton ended up a party for the home team as the Mavericks overcame the Beast with five unanswered goals to beat the visitors 5-2 and end Brampton's road win-streak at three.
The Beast came out flying in the first period, scoring just 21 seconds after puck drop, and appeared to be headed back to the win column early on. Jason Dale and Jason Pitton both scored goals in the first 5:30 of play to put the visitors up 2-0, while Mathew Maione laid out opposing players with several thundering hits. But while the opening period was a solid effort from the Beast, who skated into the first intermission with a 2-1 lead, the remaining 40 minutes of play were an absolute debacle.
The Beast tallied just six shots total in the second and third periods combined (three apiece) and lost the game mid-way through the second frame, when Missouri scored three goals within one minute, courtesy of Chris Crane (2) and David Rutherford. The third period was extremely defensive, with the Beast firing just three pucks on goal and Missouri five. The Mavericks executed their defensive system extremely well, not allowing a single quality scoring chance against in the final period en route to the victory.
The Beast remain on the road and are back in action this Friday, December 12 when they face the Tulsa Oilers. Puck drop is scheduled for 8:05 pm ET. Fans can tune into www.4cornersradio.ca for all play-by-play coverage of the Beast.
