Pitton Launches Points for Pounds

11/05/2014 10:56 AM -

The Brampton Beast along with forward #17 Jason Pitton have announced the launch of Pitton’s Points for Pounds charity for the 2014-15 season.

A prolific point producer throughout his career, Pitton will donate two non-perishable food items for each goal he scores and one item for each assist during the season-long food drive. The Points for Pounds charity will also be working closely with both the Knight’s Table and the Ste. Louise Outreach Centre of Peel throughout the year to distribute the donations.

“It was important for me after the season I had last year, and after all the support I’ve received from the city of Brampton throughout my career, to find a way to give back to the community,” said Pitton. “This just seemed like a great fit right from the start, and I’m excited to be contributing towards such a worthwhile cause this season.”

Pitton, a Brampton native with strong ties to the local community, was recently named as an alternate captain to the Beast for the upcoming season, his second with the team. An 8th round daft pick by the New York Islanders in 2004, Pitton led the Beast in scoring last year with 55 points (27 goals, 28 assists) in 66 games in his first CHL season.

No stranger to the ECHL, Pitton has also spent parts of three seasons with the Utah Grizzlies and the Stockton Thunder from 2007-2011, in addition to successful stints in the American Hockey League for the Bridgeport Sound Tigers, the Springfield Falcons, the Manitoba Moose and the Worcester Sharks.

The 6’ 2” left-winger will be attending a variety of events with his teammates throughout the year in support of his new charity. For fans wishing to get involved and support the initiative, a donation booth accepting non-perishable food items will also be set up in the concourse of the Powerade Centre during Beast home games.

During the Christmas season, Pitton will also be donating two traditional Turkey dinners to less fortunate families in the community, which will be announced during two separate home games prior to the holidays in December.
