Reigning OHL and CHL Goaltender of the Year McNiven Assigned to Beast


BRAMPTON, ONTARIO – The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens announce today that goaltender Michael McNiven has been assigned to the Beast from the Canadiens’ AHL affiliate, the Laval Rocket.


McNiven, a 20 year-old Georgetown, Ontario native, is coming off an impeccable season with the Ontario Hockey League’s Owen Sound Attack. In 54 games played, he posted a 41-9-2 record with six shutouts to accompany a 2.30 goals against average and a .915 save percentage.


His strong season resulted in several team and individual accolades. He posted the best goals against average in the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) and helped the Attack to the Dave Pinkney Trophy given to the team with the lowest goals against average.


Individually, he was named to the OHL’s First All Star Team and earned both the Canadian Hockey League (CHL) and Ontario Hockey League’s Goaltender of the Year award.


Earlier in his junior career in 2014-15, he was named to the CHL Top Prospects Game, won the Dinty Moore Trophy for posting the best rookie goals against average in the OHL, and earned a spot on the OHL’s First All Rookie Team.
