BRAMPTON, ONTARIO – The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, are proud to announce the first player signing ahead of the 2017-18 ECHL season in bringing back hard-hitting, high-scoring assistant captain and one of the top defensemen in the ECHL, Jordan Henry.

Henry, 31, is coming off what could be considered the best season of his entire career. The Milo, Alberta native set new professional career milestones in all offensive categories, including goals (17), assists (21) and points (38).

During the club’s impressive playoff run, Henry was arguably the team’s best player. In 12 postseason contests, Henry led the club in assists (4) and points (9) and scored the first ever postseason overtime game-winning goal in Game Two of the North Division Semifinals against the Reading Royals on April 15.

His remarkable season, which helped the Beast to their first ever ECHL playoff berth, has placed Henry among the club’s all-time franchise leaders in several statistical categories. Henry now ranks as the club’s all-time leader in goals scored by a defenseman (23) and points by a defenseman (57).

Henry is excited to return to the Powerade Centre for his third full season of duty with the Beast and is looking to continue the trend of growth as the team looks to claim its first ever Kelly Cup championship.

“I’m really excited to be back,” Henry said.

“We made some big strides as a team last year and we’re looking to build on that. I had a pretty good season myself last year. I had a good second half of the season and I’m hoping to carry that over into the start of this upcoming season as well.”

Beast Head Coach Colin Chaulk is very familiar with Henry’s body of work having coached him for the last two seasons and believes that he is a key component to the club having another successful season in 2017-18.

“Obviously we’re really excited to have Henry back,” said Chaulk.

“He’s one of the premier defenseman in the league. He’s a leader on our team and is coming off a career year in points and goals. We’re really excited to have him back and see him build on that.”
